The Blacksmith’s Automatic Series

This series is the result of several years of iteration starting with a class on friction folders by Master Smith Nick Rossi. I took the techniques learned there, primarily the forged “taco” style outer jacket, and began to see how far I could push the boundaries of the package. This process took nearly three years before I landed on a design I was happy with.

While the final production knives sometimes use more complex tooling for ease of construction, to improve repeatability, and increase the quantity per batch available, this family of pocket knives was and still is developed with the intent of being able to build them using as simple tools as possible (primarily a hammer, forge, drill press, grinder, and files) and as few parts as possible while still creating a reliable, robust automatic.

Classes on this method of construction are expected to be available in 2025.
